The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2012
What is it?
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) was established under the Childcare Act 2006 and is a framework for learning, development and care for children from birth to five. It describes what is meant by high quality Early Years provision in England attended by children from birth up to the age of 5+. There are a number of documents in the EYFS framework which can be viewed below. Please note that the EYFS 2012 is statutory until 1st September 2014 when the 2014 EYFS document becomes statutory.
Where does the EYFS apply?
Whatever school or setting a pre-school child attends the EYFS must be used – the main exceptions to this are: if they have a nanny; or they attend a parent and toddler group (where the parent stays with their child) or crèches which are run for short periods.
